چکیده

One of the most confusing aspects that one meets when introducing oneself into gaze tracking technology is the wide variety, in terms of hardware equipment, of available systems that provide solutions to the same matter, that is, determining the point the subject is looking at. The calibration process permits generally adjusting nonintrusive trackers based on quite different hardware and image features to the subject. The negative aspect of this simple procedure is that it permits the system to work properly but at the expense of a lack of control over the intrinsic behavior of the tracker. The objective of the presented article is to overcome this obstacle to explore more deeply the elements of a video-oculographic system, that is, eye, camera, lighting, and so forth, from a purely mathematical and geometrical point of view. The main contribution is to find out the minimum number of hardware elements and image features that are needed to determine the point the subject is looking at. A model has been constructed based on pupil contour and multiple lighting, and successfully tested with real subjects. On the other hand, theoretical aspects of videooculographic systems have been thoroughly reviewed in order to build a theoretical basis for further studies.

Potentials of Evolving Linear Models in Tracking Control Design for Nonlinear Variable Structure Systems

Evolving models have found applications in many real world systems. In this paper, potentials of the Evolving Linear Models (ELMs) in tracking control design for nonlinear variable structure systems are introduced. At first, an ELM is introduced as a dynamic single input, single output (SISO) linear model whose parameters as well as dynamic orders of input and output signals can change through ...

Real-Time Gaze Tracking with a Consumer-Grade Video Camera

Eye gaze can be a rich source of information to identify particular interests of human users. Eye gaze tracking has been largely used in different research areas in the last years, as for example in psychology, visual system design and to leverage the user interaction with computer systems. In this paper, we present an IR-based gaze tracking framework that can be easily coupled to common user a...

Using a Visual Attention Model to Improve Gaze Tracking Systems in Interactive 3D Applications

This paper introduces the use of a visual attention model to improve the accuracy of gaze tracking systems. Visual attention models simulate the selective attention part of the human visual system. For instance, in a bottom-up approach, a saliency map is defined for the image and gives an attention weight to every pixel of the image as a function of its color, edge or intensity. Our algorithm u...

Mapping Functions in Gaze Tracking

Eye gaze is one of the powerful modes for interaction with the computer. Gaze estimation systems compute the direction of eye gaze. The gaze region on the screen determines the focus and attention of an individual. The gaze tracking systems consists of two major functionalities, feature extraction and determination of gaze mapping functions. The features are the parameters that characterize the...

Latent Space Gaussian Process Gaze-Tracking

Commercial gaze-tracking devices provide accurate measurements of the visual gaze and are applied to a broad range of problems in marketing, human-computer interaction, and health care technology. In some applications commercial systems are either unavailable or unaffordable. Therefore, developing low cost solutions using off the shelf components is worthwhile. In the paper at hand, we apply a ...

Empirical Study on Designing of Gaze Tracking Camera Based on the Information of User’s Head Movement

Gaze tracking is the technology that identifies a region in space that a user is looking at. Most previous non-wearable gaze tracking systems use a near-infrared (NIR) light camera with an NIR illuminator. Based on the kind of camera lens used, the viewing angle and depth-of-field (DOF) of a gaze tracking camera can be different, which affects the performance of the gaze tracking system. Nevert...
